THE TEST

Here we present some of the research undertaken / conducted on color and emotion.
In
1947 Max Lüscher presented his doctoral thesis on the colors as a diagnostic instrument. The dissertation received the highest ratings of the professors of psychiatry, philosophy and psychology. His color test has been examined in a number of scientific studies and has evolved into the unique test that it is today.

Lüscher has
created a psychological system based on colors. In this psychological system, he has divided the human behavior into three two-pole categories. These categories are linked to the colors blue, green, red and yellow.
  1. Alloro and Bruschi, Psychiatric Clinic Monticelli Terme, Parma, Italy in 1984, made a comparison between a group of psychotic patients and a group of compulsive behaviors based on Lüschers categories. They found statistically significant differences. See the results under 2.

  2. Dale Schutt, Pasadena, Los Angeles, USA, 1993, did the same survey and found the following statistical significance for Lüscher categories.

    Directive

          p>0,05

    Receptive  p<0,015
    Variable      p<0,001
    Constant  p<0,001
    Integrative     p<0,049
    Separativ p<0,001

  3. E. Schikowa på Statsuniversitetet i Moskva i Ryssland (Diss. E. Schikowa, Moskau 2001) made a test of reliability and validity of Lüschers categories on a group of 250 persons. She had significances of 99%.

  4. J. Erbslöh: Die Medizinische 1957, nr 10 349, and

  5. J. Ulrich, Diss 1958, Med. Universitätsklinik Leipzig ffound that women with obesity significantly more often put red color as last choice. Rejecting red is a sign of physical non activity depressing tiredness.

  6. H. Wohlfarth: Psychotherapie 1, 1956, 216; 2, 1957, 86. Blood pressure, breathing and pulse beat frequency was investigated  on a group of men and women, age 13-68. Looking at blue color raised the values by 7% of the persons and lowered them by 50%.  Looking at red raised the values by 65%, but lowered them by 5% of the group.
    (Lüscher-test 1969. Test-Verlag, Basel (Schweiz) sid. 111.)

  7. Andersson H. och Olofsson K. Barnpsykiatriska kliniken, Lidköping, 1969, investigated correlation between sum of color on the Rohrschach test and preference for violet color in the Lüscher color test on a group of 66 young boys at the age of 15-20. There was a significant correlation at the 95%.  The same investigation was made on another group of young men and women, 65 persons. The same results were reached for this group.

  8. J Erbslöh: Die Medizinische 1957, nr 10, 349. Obesity (n = 60 + 100) By 95% of persons with obesity the color choices disclosed an emotional unbalanced situation. At the 8 color choice the red color was mostly rejected and the yellow color was rejected by 73% of the persons in the group. The blue color wast mostly choice as a compensatory color.

  9. The same results were reached by J Ulrich, Diss 1958, Med. Universitäts-klinik Leipzig: „Farbenpsychologische Untersuchungen bei fettsüchtigen Frauen“ och även 10) H. Klar: „Die Adipositas im Farbtest“ (Medico Böhringer Mannheim 1963, nr 2).

  10. An investigation made at the Olympic games under 2004 showed that those who wear red suits in the sports of taekwondo, wrestling and boxing significantly more often were winners. The suits were randomly given to the participants.

  11. Bob Hoss, M.S. reported 2007 from his investigations that emotional stuff often was highly correlated with the choices in Lüschers Color test. See http://www.dreamscience.org or http://dreamgate.com/dream/hoss/index.htm for further information.

  12. After some months of "Atogene training" the yellow color moved from place six to place two, which is a sign of a more relaxed attitude than the choice number six.  N=500. H. Wallnöfer i ”Seele ohne Angst” Campe 1968, Hamburg.

  13. Youngsters o the age  of 13, who became criminals as grown ups, often choices black as the best liked color and yellow as the least liked. these choices are a sign of having an unbalances emotional situation.  N=4275. Nils Lie: Psykiatriska universitetskliniken, Bergen, Norge; Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavia, 323; 77. 1988, ”Offenders tested” British Journal of Projective Psychology, 1994, 39, 23-34.
